The Truth about Animal Rights...it's not What You Think
ANIMAL LAW ISSUES AND "ANIMAL RIGHTS"
Most of the general public does not actually understand how the animal rights activists get laws passed, or what they are really trying to do. While many people love animals and want to save everything (meaning animals), the emotional aspect of animal rights is what drives most of the legislation. Many of the laws attribute the same type of conduct toward animals as the child welfare codes do; in fact, much of the animal code (CA Penal Code) calling for criminal charges, was patterned after the child welfare statute. Thus although animals are not people, many animal activists put animals at the human level and higher. This may mean that while abandoning a child is one thing, being negligent with an animal is a very highly subjective issue, and there is only usually one view of what is considered to be animal "abuse", and generally, abuse can end up being whatever the activists say it is. We have seen quite a few cases where evidence is actually manufactured in order to gain "abuse" charges; we have seen the emotional beliefs of activists take over a case with the overzealous nature normally reserved for homicide cases. Currently, there are groups which hand pick cases to bring forward for animal activists, claiming that animals have human rights and that loss of an animal should be rewarded with damages for intrinsic loss. Unfortunately, this would lead to the end of our tort system since animal activists would clog the courts for every slight that befell an animal, trust us. We have researched this for over 10 years and activists will not quit. They want animals to have rights that even exceed that for humans.
